Demonstrate Customer Care with Accessibility Testing

When you use Accessibility Testing you are opening your interface to a more comprehensive study while building your platform to be more inclusive. Accessibility Testing also helps to ensure that your interfaces are user-centric and shows that all users are of equal importance and that their needs are prioritized when developing new sites or apps.

Why Should You Implement Accessibility Testing?

1

Promotes
Inclusivity:

Accessibility testing promotes inclusivity by ensuring that your studies and platform are accessible to a wider range of users. By considering the needs of individuals with disabilities, you create a more inclusive environment for all users.

2

Encourages
Equity:

Incorporating accessibility testing into your user experience research tools helps uncover potential inequalities and biases in your design. By actively engaging with all segments of your target audience, you contribute to providing an equitable experience for everyone.

3

Expands Global
Reach:

Ensuring Accessibility Testing in your product or service for users from diverse backgrounds, languages, and with different accessibility requirements is imperative if your target is a global audience. This approach enables you to reach and engage with a broader range of users worldwide.

4

Builds User-
Friendliness:

By prioritizing Accessibility Testing in your design, you guarantee that all members of your target audience have equal access to your product or service. This fosters a user-friendly experience that can be enjoyed and utilized in various settings, catering to the diverse needs of your users.

Considerations While Running an Accessibility testing

  • Allot more time for accessibility studies since it can take participants to follow study activities using screen readers.
  • Use concise phrasing with bullet points when formatting text for activities in order to make the instructions more clear for screen readers.
  • Try to keep activities to 1 question and create multiple activities if necessary. In many cases, screen readers will read the entire block of text, so if you have multiple questions in one activity, the user will hear all of them every time, which can cause confusion.
  • Low vision users prefer seeing bolded text because they find it easier to read.
  • When running moderated sessions with screen readers, ensure that the participants aren’t using headphones so that the moderator can hear what/when the screen reader is speaking. This is to avoid the moderator talking over the screen reader, while also allowing the moderator to hear what the user is hearing.
